By plane you can use the 2 major airlines like Aegean and Olympic. They land to the airports of Chanià and Heraklion that distant by car 1 hour and 1 hour and a half circa either. There are morning afternoon and evening flights so there is a margin of choice. You can find more info about the 2 airlines in their website , where you can purchase an e-ticket also.

 If you like boat trips there there is a boat that brings youdirectly to the harbor of Rethymno everyday, in summer time, and the company is ANEK. Check throught their website for more info about prices. They usualy depart from Pireus at 2000 and arrive at Rethymno at 6 in the morning. For more info: http://www.anek.gr/english/index.html

You can also arrive with the same company to Souda, Chania harbor, and from there take the bus or a car and come to Rethymno. Consider also using MINOAN LINES that arrive to the harbor of Heraklion. These 2 boat companies have itineraries from italy too, so you can combine an arriving from there by car and then come directly to Rethymno.
